UNITED FESTIVAL

I still haven’t got my ticket! Payday is but days away and I am itching to bag my slot and embrace – no, UNITE with my fellow ravers. Really, I should posting this after I have purchased, just in case I am completely shooting myself in the foot and the last of the tickets officially sell out. I will take my chances with music destiny, I will be unselfish. I will share the love!

This is set to be a banging festival. Truth be told, I hadn’t actually heard of this one untill several weeks ago. I suspect I should be ashamed of myself for not having heard of it, but there we go – it did only debut last year. I heard it through the grapevine, checked out the line up and thought OH MY RAVEGOD! I need to go to this. Pied Piper? DJ Luck and MC Neat? Grooverider?! Yes please! Take me back to the good old days! Who really wants to be sitting on the sofa on a Sunday afternoon, watching Time Team over an unwanted plate of brussel sprouts, longing for some filthy old school rave beats? Not this Sunday the 13th of September. Not on my watch!

Tickets are sadly no longer going for a mere £20. Last release tickets are now £40. But whats an extra £20 for an action packed day celebrating over 25 years of British rave culture, with over 150 acts and 8 arenas – all in one field?

Please save me a ticket! Possible review pending…FINGERS, TOES AND LIMBS CROSSED!

Snowbombing Festival

With only twenty minutes to take advantage of a secret earlybird booking link, I frantically scrolled the numerous hotels, battled failing internet and horrendous phone signal…and managed to book an awesome room at the Hotel Forsthaus zum Kramerwirt, in the Mayrhofen centre, for a mere £125 deposit!

logoSnowboardingI am beyond excited! Snowbombing promoters summarise this event epicly: “A festival filled with fresh air, blue skies, black runs & white-hot parties… A week-long whirlwind of world class DJs and bands, in the idyllic alpine setting of Mayrhofen, Austria. Days are spent skiing, boarding, enjoying music on mountain top stages or relaxing in the spa of a luxury hotel. Nights deliver cutting edge performances in unique venues, from a sky high igloo, to an enchanted forest clearing. Regarded by many as… The Greatest Show on Snow. Mystical. Musical. Without Equal…”

Artic Discos, Road Trips, Fancy Dress Street Parties, Backcountry & Forest Parties – can you really get a festival better than this?

Now with 7 long months to dream of snowcapped mountains, rooftop hot tubs and five whole days of music heaven, all that is left to decide now is whether to Ski or Board!?

True to form, I have been a tad neglectful of Raiders over the festive period and the start to a glorious new year. Have no fear though fellow bloggers… the blog may have been neglected, but the 2015 festival plans are well under way. First festival booked – Sonar Barcelona! Founded in 1994, Sonar is a three day electronic and advanced music festival that is fast becoming a top favourite for all festival enthusiasts. This year the Chemical Brothers are headlining the Sonar by Night on Saturday 20th June and I shall be there, front row, celebrating another birthday in electrotastic style!

Last Friday, I had the pleasure of listening to the iconic falsetto tones of Mr Pharrell Williams live at the 02 Arena. An incredible night, accompanied by an array of equally historic and fresh chart stopping tracks from the sexy beats of Frontin, to the ghetto clicks of Drop it Like it’s Hot and the spirited claps of Happy. If you get the chance to see Pharrell live, you will not be disappointed – a five star performance!

Ever wondered what face cream he wears? He literally hasn’t aged a bit!

It has been a long time since I heard an Eminem track that I was genuinely impressed with. Joining his many detractors in recent years, I too feared that Eminem had gone pop; that Mr Slim Shady had crossed no mans land from the world of controversy and grit to the land of commercial cheese. Having just experienced an epic evening at Wembley Stadium on Saturday, I can gratefully say that even in his forties and despite his dabbling with the likes of Rhianna, Eminem has certainly still got it. Rap God is a big ‘bleep’ you to the doubters and I absolutely love it. Hearing Eminem perform this live, to a crowd of 90,000, was an experience I will not be forgetting in a hurry. A big thanks to Partisan PR for yet again sending me another great track and video. It is the first time I have listened to Goodbye Chanel and I will definitely be adding their second EP ‘Hot City Nights’ to my collection. It is certainly a shame that I am not festivalling this year, because Goodbye Chanel is perfect Pimm’s and sunshine listening!

Loved the video for Foreva – classic, nostalgic and utterly heart-warming!

“Marvelling combination of heady tropical pop” – DIY Magazine

“The irresistible ringing of the layered synths and guitars immediately invokes desirable, sweltering visions so sugary and dreamy, they leave you feeling free and on a youthful high” – The Line Of Best Fit

Goodbye Chanel have revealed the video for ‘Foreva’ – taken from their recently released second EP, ‘Hot City Nights’. The EP was released via Dead Young Records and followed 2013’s debut, ‘Through Night To Paradise’, with the band gaining praise from as far a field as Japan and garnering early interest from the likes The Line Of Best Fit, Dummy Magazine, The 405 and DIY Magazine.

Originally founded by Scott Johnson, Goodbye Chanel quickly became the fully established five-piece band that it is today with the addition of Giuseppe De Luca on vocals & guitar, Adam Taylor on bass, Sean Goodchild on guitar and Graham Robson on drums. Crafting their own brand of multi layered vocal hooks and manifesting a world of melancholic angst with accessible pop melodies and lyrical nostalgia, Goodbye Chanel excel at  producing songs that evoke a shimmering halcyon days.

Goodbye Chanel have been gigging across the UK over the first half of 2014 with a number of upcoming festivals planned for the summer (see below) and new dates to be announced soon. The ‘Hot City Nights’ EP is available to buy now.

Upcoming UK dates:
19th July – Fellfoot Sound festival, Lake District
25th July – Tramlines Festival, Sheffield
9th August – Beacons Festival, Yorkshire Dales
30th August – Bernicia Festival, South Shields
