This year the mighty Lovebox Festival celebrated a decade of love! After days of torrential rain and what was set to be a rather damp and dull day for Bangthebox on Friday; the heavens remained closed, the rain mac firmly packed away, and despite some hefty mud swamps, the day was glorious and the festival as expected was excellent.

Arriving just after 2:30 to hoards of  early birds at the festival gates; it took a while to get past security and there wasn’t a great deal happening at this time around the festival. If you head there next year, give the festival a few hours to warm up. When it does all kick off, there is a lot to see and do at Lovebox. Given we arrived so early, we didn’t expect to leave having only seen a few acts. But after several ciders, much roaming, and several clashes with the main acts this was the case. We did however see Ms Dynamite, Magnetic Man, Roska and Stamina…3 minutes of SubFocus and 10 minutes of Plastician… Not bad really. Ms Dynamite was pure class, and Katy B made a surprise appearance, joining Skream, Artwork and Benga on stage to perform ‘Perfect Stranger’ which was a highlight of the day! At 2:40 in the ‘I Need Air’ video England score-great moment! For £30 this was a top-notch day festival, and one I would recommend to all lovers of good music!

Girls and guys! If you long for the romanticism of wartime Britain; women donning vintage tea dresses, red lippy and hair curlers, and dashing men in slick military uniform or a braces and flat cap combo, swinging the night away with cocktails, yam and scotch eggs on tap – then you need to book a ticket for the next Blitz party; a fancy dress club night like no other in London. Set under the brick arches of an old underground bunker on Holywell Lane in Shoreditch, this venue is spot on in creating the perfect wartime ambience.

We headed to the Blitz Party last Saturday and had a truly spiffing evening! The entertainment was excellent, as was the authenticity of the glamorous revellers dancing; with any couple who could find room on the heaving dance floor attempting a charming mélange of swing, jive and the Charleston – myself included.  The queues for the bar were long and the cocktails were pricey, but frankly when one is surrounded with such novel jovial wartime spirit, complaints were few and far between. The flash of cameras were constant as groups of friends reveled in the success of their own outfits; heed this warning – you really will look like an oddball if you do not put a touching amount of work into looking like you were born ninety years ago. Everything about the evening was bona fide Blitz! My only complaint was that just as my swinging was really beginning to take hold across the full breadth of the dance floor, our wartime knees up came to an early end at 2:00am. Alas! You are in Shoreditch, so there is no end to the number of hotspots to visit after the french gin is well and truly flowing… and there is nothing like heading to a hipster East London bar swanked up in 40s clobber – take that scenesters!

The Blitz Party is back on May 5th, so get your tickets sharpish as this really has become the biggest thing since Vera Lyn. Tickets cost £20 – follow link to purchase tickets.

The Blitz Party has been running in London for several years, but because they always sell out so fast, we have never managed to get tickets. Alas! We have finally secured tickets and are practicing our finger weaves and vintage shopping for that very special war-time outfit.

Blitz Party is one of London’s hottest nights, where cocktails, dancing and neighbourly spirit are the order of the evening. Revellers will make their way to a wartime East End air shelter, complete with sandbags, searchlights, blackout curtains, oil lamps and military bunk beds. Ration books replace bar tabs, scarce provisions line the walls, and spread under two arches, the room plays host to some of UK’s finest live swing bands, performers and DJs.

We are very excited for our war-time knees up, and I know the ladies cannot wait to be sipping Gin French with lots of men in uniform.

Unfortunately tickets for the next event are sold out, but events are monthly so if you follow the link to the website below, you can sign up to the Blitz Party mailing list to keep updated on forcoming events.

Zombiemeat and Raider are currently recovering from a truly epic evening with the original ninja Mr Jaguar Skills, who played last night at the Scala for his Spring 2012 ‘Jaguar Skills and his Amazing Friends’ Tour. DJ Cable and Murkage were the first acts to start us off and they done an almighty job in hyping up the crowd-by 1:00am the main room was heaving and there wasn’t a reveller in sight who was not unleashing elated bass fury into their moves. Anyone who is fan or has already experienced a night with Jaguar Skills can just imagine how much buzz was flowing through the room by the time we were graced with his presence. The Radio 1 mixologist went down an absolute storm with his infamous lightning-quick mixing and uber mash-up skills. It was an aural assault of Dubstep to Drum n Bass, and everything in between, and I can honestly say I have never been part of such extreme dance mayhem. For the first thirty minutes of his two-hour set, we found ourselves being aggressively moshed around all four corners of the modest sized venue. The crowd went mental, and the epicness of his set done nothing for the safety of our internal organs. Suffering serious body crushing and headrush claustrophobia we battled our way to higher ground and relished a good deal of the set with ample body whipping and arms flailing space. An amazing night. At no point during Jaguar Skill’s set was there time to suck in the stitch and catch our breath; he banged out one epic tune after the next; having had the tickets and waited so long to experience the DJ on the top of our must see list it was certainly not a disappointment.  I would recommend absolutely everyone and anyone to hit up a night with Jaguar Skills! I wouldn’t recommend the cabby office near the Scala though. I get a need when I’m leaving the club and I’m wanting to please it (that’s going to bed) and I’m usually on the roam so I need a car when we leave clubs immediately; 45 minutes into our journey lost and driving the wrong way up a dual carriage way I’m thinking we need to get out, but the more that I need it the less that I believe it. Thankfully we are alive so it’s all good… moral to the Lindsey OCS, is get the bus. All I can say now is bring on the next one!

2012 sets to be another landmark year for our masked hero. His highly successful mix compilation for Toolroom Records received critical acclaim, and he has now been donned the“King of the Comps”. The demand for Jaguar Skills in and outside of the UK has gone to new levels; we literally cannot wait to see to see what he pull out the back this year. Keep an eye out for forthcoming event information.

The following  videos include “Ginger Pubes” and a rather special mash-up mix – more videos pending.

Also a special Raider shout out to the one and only legendary MC on the Mic Mr Stuuuuudiiiioooo…I’m sending one of these out to you (x) 😉

Finally a message fellow lovers of the mighty Jaguar Skills – HoooOOOooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
